As part of the ‘Live events’ unit on theMSc Events Managementcourse,three groups ofAVstudentshave organised sociallysignificantvirtualevents.
All three events demonstratestudent-ledfusionactivityof research, education and professional practice, supervised byDrSakisPappous,Deputy Head of Department in Sport and Event Management.
DrPappoussaid: “We aim to produce three tangible examples of working hand in hand with externalpartners.”

Online yoga event, including two yoga sessions,raising money for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care (Registered Charity no. 1120193)helping people with life-limiting illnessesandtheir families across East Dorset.Thebeginner level, 90-minutesessionswill be run by:
A virtual evening of football fun,live martial arts, quizzes and raffle draws,all to raise funds for OndaSolidária, anon-profit organisationworking in Brazil to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
Tickets are availablewith asuggested minimum donation of £5.Everyparticipant will beentered into afreeprizedrawon the night.
Juliette Sandkamp, MSc Events Management student and Project Manager for the Festival of Football said: "Taking part in this project has been a valuable learning experience. As Marketing Manager, I have had the opportunityto apply academic events theory into a real-world setting, as well as utilising my previous professional marketing experience."
Fellow student Natalie Watson, Marketing Manager for the Festival of Footballevent, added:"I have gained valuable insight into all event management processes, cultivated my soft skills by taking on a leadership role and developed confidence in communication for my future career path."
An online conference delivered in Englishon Zoom,with theaim tocreate inclusivity andamplify the voicesof Paralympic Athletesby providing aplatformforParalympianstoexpress their views on how they are portrayedgloballybythemedia. Thehopeof theseconversationsistoinfluencethe media to makechangesfortheforthcoming Tokyo Paralympic Games.
MSc Events Management student and Project ManagerRithikaDorairajsaid: “Managing this event has shown me that we have created man-made barriers that prevent people from participating in society, it could be something as simple as stairs. The most important thing is breaking down these barriers by promoting discussion around equality, disability and inclusion and this is what the event is aimed at doing.”
All the proceeds from the conference will be donated to OndaSolidária, a non-profit organisation in Brazil,whoseaimis to ensureVila dosSonhos,‘the Village of Dreams’, is inclusive for all individuals.
The students havealsoset up a to help raise funds for the Village ofDreams.
Dr SakisPappoussaid: “OndaSolidáriais so happywiththe students' work so far they have sent me a thank you letter stating they would be happy to have a wider collaboration with AV and are willing to offer international placement opportunities to our students.”
