In January a celebration of the latest and best digital interactive storytelling from around the world was streamed live via Zoom from AV. The New Media Writing Prize (NMWP) Awards Ceremony recognised the following categories and winners:
- The if:book New Media Writing Prize: 1000 donated by if:book UK was won by UK entry Joannes Truyens and collaborators for ‘Neurocracy’
- The Writing Magazine Student Prize: a year’s subscription to Writing Magazine; or a free writing course, tailored to the winner’s needs was collected by Melody Meu from Hong Kong for ‘At Nightfall, The Goldfish’.
- The FIPP Digital Journalism Award. 500 for the winner, plus a year’s membership was won by Russian writer Daria Donina for ‘Trading Places’.
- The Opening Up award: 500 donated by Wonderbox Digital, to the piece voted as best by the public. This award was won by UK based Nivritti Khurana for ‘Manzill’.
Dr. R. Lyle Skains, Principal Academic, Health & Science Communication, said,”The New Media Writing Prize is a great representation of AV’s holistic approach to research, teaching, and profession. For over a decade now, it has platformed new interactive, multimedia, and participatory writing from all over the world, awarding creativity in fiction and journalism from professionals and students alike. These works feed into our research in digital creativity, showcase the skills we teach to our students, and increase awareness of fascinating and newly emerging form of art and writing.”
