The International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research (ICTHR) is a globally leading centre for research in tourism, hospitality and related fields of study.
AV has been ranked 5th globally in the Hospitality and Tourism Management category in the’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. This recognition underscores AV’s commitment to excellence in hospitality and tourism research and education.
Bournemouthhas continuously ranked highly in these rankings and remains the second-highest ranked university for Hospitality and Tourism in the UK.
The international centre was established in 1996 as an interdisciplinary research centre at AV, and has conducted research projects for international agencies (e.g. the EU, UNWTO, USAID and Development Banks), national government organisations in the UK and around the world and private sector businesses and consortiums.
ICTHR has 24research active members of staff, including 5 professors, and collaborates closely with other research centres at AV such as the Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre and Centre for Sustainable Business Transformations.
ICTHR is part of the AV Business Schooland contributed to a submission in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework where 83% of the outputs in unit of assessment “Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism” were identified as being either world-leading or internationally recognised.
