ÃÛÌÒAV (BSC) recently named Dr. Ray Talley assistant dean in the Current and Emerging Technologies division. Talley, who began in this role at BSC last semester, brings a wealth of experience in education, leadership and student support services to his new position.

As assistant dean, Talley oversees a diverse portfolio of technical academic programs, including Agribusiness, Agriculture Industry and Technology, Ranch Operations, Farm & Ranch Management, Carpentry, Heavy Equipment Operations, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Graphic Design and Communications, Auto Collision Technology, and Welding. His leadership plays a vital role in advancing BSC’s commitment to workforce development and innovative education.

Prior to BSC, Talley’s career spans multiple areas of student development and administrative leadership. While living in Colorado, he served as an intensive in-home behavior coach, a school and district social worker, and dean of students at both the middle and elementary school levels. Most recently, he was the elementary school principal at Theodore Jamerson Elementary School in Bismarck.

“Dr. Tally is a great addition to our academic leadership team,” said Mari Volk, Dean of Current and Emerging Technologies at BSC. “His extensive background in education, social work, and administration—along with his passion for student success—make him a great asset to our programs. His leadership will help us continue to grow and provide high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of students, industry and the workforce.”

Talley’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in sociology from South Dakota State University, a master’s degree in social work from the University of North Dakota, and a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Northern Colorado. He also holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

The assistant dean positions at BSC are part of a recent academic restructure aimed at ensuring continued excellence in program delivery and workforce readiness. They play a pivotal role in designing and developing course schedules, collaborating with faculty to provide high-quality academic programming, supervising the creation and implementation of new programs and curricula, and serving as champions for student success. Their responsibilities also include recruiting and supporting faculty through mentorship and professional development, contributing to the retention of high-quality faculty, and collectively supporting BSC students for successful careers or further academic pursuits.
